Welcome to the Golden Gate Area Council’s STEM page.  This website is your resource for any and all Nova Counselors, Supernova Mentors, Unit Leaders, and anyone interested in the STEM program within the Golden Gate Area Council.

With National’s exit from directly supporting the STEM program, we are in the process updating the STEM Awards to reflect the current requirements. The Supernova Guidance Page has valuable information for Supernova Mentors and candidates for completing the Supernova Application for all program levels.

The Requirements Pages for the Nova and Supernova awards is being updated as quickly as we can.  The STEM Resources Menu has additional links for Nova Counselors and Supernova Mentors, a list of the Council’s Scout STEM Kit offerings, and Local STEM activities.

There’s lots of information on these pages. If you have any questions, contact the GGAC STEM Committee Chair, Tracy Peters

Meanwhile, our Council STEM Committee is always on the lookout for Scouters who are passionate about STEM. Please join us at our monthly Committee meetings. For information about joining in on the fun, Alan Young.

Scouts BSA...Get Ready to "Start Your Engines!"

Come join the Golden Gate Area Council for the Scouts BSA Nova Award Start Your Engines!
On Saturday, July 12th starting at 1:00 pm at Camp Herms, we will start our engines, learn about gear ratios then design, build, and race solar cars.
The cost for the event is $30. This includes all the materials, the awards, and some light snacks.  Scouts BSA youth just need to bring their creativity and industry.

Never Fear, Cub Scouts! The STEM Committee is working on holding an event for you in the Fall that fits with the current requirements.

Video Resources for Cub Scouts

For our Cub Scout Den Leaders – here’s a selection of short videos with STEM activities related to Cub Scout Adventures.

Got Supernova Medals?

While some Packs and Troops have registered Supernova Mentors, many units do not. If you are a scout looking to earn a Supernova Medal and need a mentor, please email the STEM Committee

Remember to mention which Supernova Medal you are:
thinking of working towards,
your current rank, and
any work you may have done so far in completing the award.
